Privacy Policy
How Homeschooler collects, uses, and protects your information.
Who we are
Homeschooler is an iOS app that helps parents track homeschooling time per child and per subject. The app is operated by Wade Bruce (Brucelabs), a sole-proprietor based in the United States. You can reach us anytime at wbruce31@gmail.com.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to make the app work for you.
- Account info — your name and email address, provided by Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google when you create an account.
- Family info you enter — your home state, the names and grade levels of your children, the subjects you track, time-tracking entries, and achievement progress.
- Device info — if you opt in to push notifications, we store the device token issued by Apple / Expo so we can deliver reminders. We do not collect advertising IDs.
We do not currently use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
How we use it
- To run the app and sync your data between devices.
- To send notifications you have asked for (daily reminders, streak alerts, weekly summaries).
- To respond when you contact support.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Children's information
Homeschooler is designed for parents and guardians, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. The information about your children that appears in the app — names, grade levels, subjects, time entries — is entered by you, the parent or guardian, and is treated as your data. We use this information only to provide the tracking features you use it for, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising or profiling.
If you would like that data deleted, contact us at wbruce31@gmail.com.
How we share information
We share data only with infrastructure providers we use to run the service:
- Amazon Web Services — hosts our backend and database (DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway) in the us-east-2 region.
- Apple — provides Sign in with Apple and push delivery.
- Google — provides Sign in with Google when you choose that option.
- Expo — relays push-notification tokens to Apple's notification service.
We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it with marketers. We may disclose information if required by law (for example, in response to a valid legal request).
Data retention
We keep your account data and homeschooling records for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to remove your data, we will delete it from our active systems within 30 days. Backup copies may persist for a short time before being overwritten.
Your rights
You can:
- Access and export your data from inside the app (PDF, CSV, JSON).
- Edit or delete individual children, subjects, and entries from inside the app.
- Request a full account deletion by emailing wbruce31@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the CCPA. To exercise any of these rights, just email us — we'll respond within a reasonable time.
Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in AWS using their managed encryption at rest. Authentication is handled by Apple and Google directly — we never see your password. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Homeschooler after a change means you accept the updated policy.
